Gone to the Dogs
Two staff members wisely quit the unit this month, and an evening's outing was arranged. Sixteen of us met up at the dog track last night for a meal and some honestly-it-was-all-totally-legal betting on the races. I wasn't so sure about going initially as I had no interest in placing any bets, but I liked the two people that were leaving and needed something to do for a night's entertainment.

The track was in a part of Oxford I've rarely frequented, so I'll admit to borrowing NKC's satellite navigation system to get me there. I was quite impressed with how easy it was to use & to follow, and I'd downloaded and installed some celebrity voices for him, so it was John Cleese who guided me to my destination.

I was first to arrive and sat alone for almost 15 minutes before anyone else I knew showed up, and very nearly left as I just wasn't comfortable. But then a large group came & the meal was served & we started watching the races and had a laugh. I did wind up placing one £2 bet, on Swift Pooch, and won - £1.80. We watched 12 races and left around 10:30. It very much felt like a Friday night which made dragging myself to work today all the more difficult.

So much is going on, I'm having to skip most details and even many summaries. I've probably been burning the candle at both ends, and when I have to leave work early to go home to take a nap, I think my body's probably trying to tell me something.

In fact I'll be finding out this week as I've a GP appointment tomorrow for an ECG and full blood work and a fitting for a 24hr bp monitor, as I was complaining of palpitations, dizziness, and an inability to concentrate last week. Probably nothing, but best find out for sure.

NKC kindly invited me to his sister's near Hellions Bumpstead, Suffolk, over the weekend, and we had a great evening in, with a take-away curry and a couple bottles of wine. Very nice to meet his family, who were very warm and hospitable, which was no surprise.
