After, we had a long walk along the canal into Jericho and then an ice cream at George & Davis'. I had a pistachio cone. After nine, and still light out.
By then, though, my knee was vexing.

Don't make fun of breakfast
And I found Captain Crunch! and Kraft Mac & Cheese! and Strawberry Milkshake Pop Tarts! and Aunt Jemima Pancake Syrup!
Who needs to fly half way 'round the world? For only a 300% markup these items could be mine!
I bought a box of cereal and marked the location in google maps so I can visit again later.

The next day, before boarding the coach back to Oxford I bought a value meal at Burger King in Victoria Station. I sat in the station's waiting area (by the Krispy Kreme shack - only 99p for one donut). After, I walked around the station three times looking for a rubbish bin. Finally I asked one of the station managers who told me there aren't any, and that I would just leave my rubbish there on the floor (yes, just there where you're standing) the rubbish lady would be by to pick it up eventually. Extraordinary.
Getting on the coach, I show my pass.
Driver: "You hane go' burg en bag, jew?"
Me: "I beg your pardon?"
Turns out he was asking me if I had a burger in my carry bag, as hot fast food is prohibited on the bus. Surely I didn't reek of Burger King? But perhaps I did after having carried it around for so long.
Perhaps it was a sign: I lost the burger when I got home. 2nd time in as many months.

And slept about 58 of the next 72 hours.
For the second time in as many months.
I had to get up Saturday morning to head to Banbury for the 3rd time in 3 weeks to see if the Gran was still respiring (she was), and even so I tossed and turned all last night. I'm wide awake now and have to be at work in 8 hours.
It's also sweltering (low 80s during the day today) and of course as a reminder there's no AC and that doesn't help.
I'd like some cheese, please.

Before the ceremony I wandered around the base and High Wycombe itself and took some photos to share later. As the base buildings are scheduled to be torn down later this year, there'll be no real reason for me to return to Wycombe any time soon.
I had been to the school 3 or four times since graduation, so I suppose I have developed a different perspective, but I was surprised at some of the comments I received when I shared the photos online: everyone enjoyed viewing them and having memories stirred up, but quite a few people said they'd forgotten a lot about their time there.
Again, maybe it's because of my current proximity to the school/base/town, or because my sister-in-law went to the same school, or because those years were so formative, or because I've managed to keep in touch with fellow classmates, but: hardly a week goes by when I don't think about something funny that happened or some teacher's personality quirks or some old friend's words of wisdom (or B.S.).
I remember a lot about those three years; those memories are clearer to me than those from university or my from my first years working.
And, because they were largely good times, I hope not to forget.

Rip off Britain #32
At least I didn't have to suffer the injustice of this guy: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/northamptonshire/6702519.stm
Wrongly jailed after a woman cried rape, Warren Blackwell applied for compensation for his three wasted years in prison. Torn from his family and sent to languish in jail as a convicted sex attacker, the innocent father-of-two imagined he was due a hefty sum for the miscarriage of justice. Instead, he was flabbergasted to learn the Home Office now intends to charge him nearly £7,000 for "board and lodging". The money is for the cost of food and accommodation while he was behind bars, and will be deducted from whatever compensation he receives for wrongly imprisonment.
