Gobble, but no gook
CM had invited P and me over to her cottage in Islip Sunday afternoon to celebrate Thanksgiving, albeit a few days late. She went to a great deal of trouble to roast a turkey & served all the trimmings, along with some English variations, including roast potatoes, carrots, sausage meat stuffing, and bread sauce. As neither of them had tried it before, P and I had scrounged up the ingredients during the week and mustered a pumpkin pie for dessert. After, Spot took us on a brisk walk about the village before we had a cup of tea and said our goodbyes. I had a few colleagues ask me why T-day is always on a Thursday, and I am embarrassed not to know the reason. Amazing how many of them knew the basis of the holiday, though: how in 1621, near the end of the Plymouth colony's first year in America, the settlers gave thanks for a plentiful first harvest. I'd bet money that many americans only think of pigging out, watching football, and preparing for 5a.m Friday sales.

Can he count that high?
On Tuesday, Bush dismissed concerns about strained ties between the United States and Canada, thanking those Canadians who turned out to wave "with all five fingers" during his first official visit.
